This project will provide a secondary school facility, a gymnasium and a soccer field for Aspire Public Schools. The site is located in downtown Huntington Park just east of Alameda Street. The proposed school building will create 400 seats serving grades 7-12. The building is designed with 16 classrooms and 2 auxiliary rooms as well as a multi-purpose room on the ground floor. The gymnasium has a capacity of 560 seats and will also function as a performing arts space. The soccer field is approximately 64,000 sq ft and will be laid with artificial turf. The campus will have 69 on-site parking spaces This site will be built to Field Act requirements and will strive for LEED certification. The site is currently a truck dealership, maintenance shop and paved parking. There is also a residence on site. The proposed design combines 14 lots and requires that the City of Huntington Park vacate a portion of 58th Street to accommodate the soccer field. Note that this school is part of a larger campus, to be owned and operated wholly by Aspire Public Schools. Phase 1 of the project includes a privately financed secondary school opening in 2010 with 560 student capacity.
