PCSD ANNOUNCES NEW LEADERSHIP

Pacific Charter School Development, Inc. (PCSD) announced today that Eli Kennedy, a PCSD board member and director at The Eli and Edythe Broad Foundation, has been appointed as interim President and CEO of the organization, effective July 1, 2010.

Mr. Kennedy succeeds Glenn Pierce who founded this California nonprofit organization roughly six-and-a-half years ago to address the chronic shortage of academically-friendly, economically-feasible charter school facilities within the State.  Over that time, Mr. Pierce and his team at PCSD created 32 schools allowing their charter management organization partners to serve over 12,200 students in need.  This important work was supported by the nation’s leaders in education reform including The Ahmanson Foundation, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, The Eli and Edythe Broad Foundation, NewSchools Venture Fund and Walton Family Foundation.

“For over six years, PCSD has been a critical engine for the growth of high-performing charter schools in Los Angeles and across California,” said Eli Broad, founder of The Broad Foundation.  “Glenn Pierce has done a tremendous job growing the organization, and while we are sad to see him leave, I have great confidence in Interim CEO Eli Kennedy, with whom I have worked for nearly four years. I know that Eli and PCSD’s board will continue to grow the organization and propel it to an even greater impact on the quality of public education in California.”

Mr. Pierce, who will remain on the PCSD board, leaves to launch a private equity fund called the Canyon-Agassi Charter School Fund which will invest in the development of charter school campuses for best-in-class charter management organizations on a national basis.
