The Alliance for College-Ready Public Schools (The Alliance) — The Alliance is led by two of the top educators in Los Angeles, CEO Judy Ivie Burton (formerly LAUSD area superintendent) and VP Howard Lappin (former principal at Foshay Junior High School and a renowned school reformer). After a long history of in-school/after-school programs dating back almost a decade, Alliance opened its first charter high school in 2004. The board includes the former president of the LAUSD’S Board of Education, as well as the president of Bank of America California, and a retired president of Anne Klein. PCSD has built four permanent campuses for The Alliance. The first is a 500-seat high school campus in the City of Huntington Park, the second, an 875-student middle and high school campus in the Pico-Union community of Los Angeles, the third, a 400-seat high school campus near the Watts community of South Los Angeles and the fourth a 560 seat high school to be expanded by the addition of a 400 seat middle school campus in the Hyde Park community of South Los Angeles. Currently, PCSD is developing one new campus for The Alliance at the prestigious Sheenway Foundation site, also near the Watts community and will be expanding the Park Mesa/Hyde Park neighborhood campus.
